Tiny rogues might be one of the better “Vampire Survivors/reverse bullet hell games” style games yet, I use this phrase for almost all of these games but really this game definitely has its own character, gameplay, and style. Everything about the game so far is absolutely amazing.

The art here is amazing, really passionate, and full of great detail and style. all of the colors and pixel work all match exactly together. The CRT feedback is also excellent if you can control it. The attack animations also look very bouncy and functional which makes collecting new weapons a lot of fun. The music is exactly the same, retro sounding, and goes well with the game.

Gameplay:

The general gameplay is to move from room to room picking up items and leveling up your character. This game, unlike any of the others in the genre, requires you to control your attacks and dodge incoming attacks.

I find that I personally like this as it just adds a lot of action to the game and really keeps you thinking and constantly working.

The weapons throughout the game feel super unique, each of them all doing something very different and distinctive which makes the experience very different.

The characters are there, not unique in any great sense but provide an interesting unique starting material to build upon. Pickups and upgrades vary and feel super rewarding when collected, each upgrade instantly changing the way you approach combat. The game has an almost dungeon crawler/Diablo-style inventory that allows you to collect and try different combat strategies along the way, as well as grab items for later use.

The game also has an entire stat menu where many stats are displayed which is great, however, this is pretty much my one and only complaint, I have no idea what many of these stats do or say it is. There’s no legend, rulebook, or explanation for any of the stats. I really hope this comes in a later update because it will definitely add a ton more fun to the overall character build.

The battle rooms are all pretty square and boring in appearance but the enemy design really saves this with some very unique challenging battle levels and some solid boss designs. I would however like to see the manufacturer try to add in some unusual textures for an extra level of complexity. The game also offers tons of game progression which makes the game very rewarding

Conclusion:

Overall the game is great value for the price, very fun, and really complex in all the right ways. Plus a side note the game has a bunch of metal references and music like in the appearance where you can see the appearance having titles like “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and “Angel of Death” to have these references were just something super cool to see as a huge fan of metal music. Looking forward to updates throughout early access, definitely worth picking this one up!
