Dreamscaper Download PC is a great bully light character action game with simple RPG elements and simple but well-written character story moments that inspire Persona series games. During its development, Dreamscaper has changed a lot, and I basically dare to do better. Since I first played it, many aspects have been improved and enhanced, and I can definitely recommend it.
The (very) wide selection of weapons, abilities, and gear has made my every run so far enjoyable. Perhaps more than that, they have forced me to think a lot and adjust to my feet, often adapting my play style to mid-run according to new dynamics. The challenge feels unique and quite welcome.
As is almost necessary for roguelike-style games, the desire for “another race” is definitely a factor in this game. The dialogue between the characters from Viking World is well written, and despite the lack of voice acting, I found myself very attached to them long ago. There is something simple and small about the stories that compel them. Maybe it’s because it makes them more real.
I should mention that the music (without hyperbole) is the best I’ve heard in a freely developed game for some time. My compliments for the best score go to Dale North. Each piece suits the world and the mood and is beautiful in its own way.
Of course, the game is not perfect. I want to have a deeper, more regular, and more organic conversation with the characters I meet in the waking world. This game can give you some more time to explore different types of enemies, late-game activities / more diverse and challenging run options, and narrative aspects of the dream world.
But there is something special about it, as an in-depth experience – a feeling that struck me as amazing when it came to me. Pieces can’t come together without a hitch – but they come together well. And the game as a whole evokes a strange old memory. Thinking about it feels like the remnants of a half-remembered dream, I wish I could go back. And lately, I often do.
Visually, Dreamscaper Game is beautiful to me. It has a handmade aesthetic that reminds me of watercolors. Especially when you move from the waking world to the dream world. Just done beautifully. Some people may not like the fact that the characters do not have faces but I think it was the choice of the developer. They decided to show the emotions more through body language and memories that you see scattered on different levels. The music is serious, disturbing but turns into more uplifting melodies during bass fights.
The game is difficult, you will die. But every time you return to the waking world, you gain access to more areas of the map and you can sketch and dream (and meditate) of the day to acquire new abilities and options that you can. Will help you get back to the dream world. The game can sometimes be grinding and definitely demanding. But if you like me you don’t mind grinding but I’m only a few hours so it depends on how much you get.
