Story

The game has a story but for me, it was too abrupt, confusing, and too irrelevant to follow. All I remember is your character moving from place to place in a series of cutscenes and some unrelated dialogue that made no sense to me. I’m sorry, I couldn’t follow the game plan. The fun of this game is in its gameplay rather than the story, so don’t worry if you can’t follow the narrative!

Gameplay mechanics

As I mentioned in the last section, this game is a solid game. Think of this game as a 2d platformer with parkour and some movement skills. When you first start the game, it offers you an option to choose between two play styles; A casual playstyle or Speedrunning. These aren’t the exact names of the mods but you get the idea.

The game is very generous with the number of classes it offers. There is a legitimate class for almost every mechanic involved. If I’m honest, you have a total of 5 skills at your disposal. If I’m honest, I found some of these lessons difficult to complete. I was stuck in some classes longer than normal.

Best Gameplay of Afterthought

In the main game, you are expected to go from point A to point B as fast and stylishly as you can (In speedrunning game mode) using the combination of skills you have. I have a big problem with the base game. Your personality is supposed to be “sprinting”. But your character’s running speed is so slow it looks like they’re walking or something. I mean they have a lot of abilities that give you extra speed. So, I think it might be on purpose but it just feels a little off.

There are a total of 8 chapters (known as Cycles in this game) and each of these has a number of levels. The game has a high refresh rate because there is no fixed way to finish each level, you choose your way to finish it as fast as possible.

There are also cosmetics in the game! You can unlock skins for your player, spirit effects, and abilities. This greatly adds to the visual appeal of the game. To finish this part, I can say that the game needs a little more polishing and it will be perfect! It’s a really good concept that could be implemented a little better.

Visuals & Audio

The game has a hand-painted art style. It’s really interesting. Everything looks like a perfect stroke of the paint brush! They also have a large collection of music. It’s very good! Their playlist is amazing.

Pros:

• The game has amazing gameplay!
• Lots of skills to use in your run.
• The game is also friendly to non-speeders!
• It has a very high replay value.

Cons:

• The game requires a lot of clearing to be done.
• For some reason, even though this game gives me 200+ FPS, the loading times are very long.

The unique art and sound in Afterthought have captivated me many times. Some scenes are a must-see! I’m also very impressed with how much care was put into the mechanics, though I still miss some of the skills (especially getting that Displace Chain). And holy shit, you just need to see the boss fights! Some of them were a struggle at first, but I can’t wait to beat the first boss without taking damage, it takes a few tries haha!!

Conclusion:

An interesting and challenging game to play although it does require a bit of polishing. Well, it’s a new game, so the developers have plenty of time to fix bugs and improve the game. I recommend giving this game a chance! Try to get it
