The Tale of Bistun is based on an ancient Persian poem, yet it is a thrilling story with equal parts passion and tragedy. In the game you are a stonemason who wakes up with no memory of where or who he is, . and his only guide is a mysterious bird that takes him from place to place. The revelation of the man’s identity will, of course, break down over the course of the journey.

This show deserves so much recognition, it’s so good in every aspect and if I have to be so critical with it I can only mention 2 things that there are “strange”/”not that well thought” So I will be clear:

This story is well thought out and uses a few “storytelling” devices that helped keep me engaged from the first minute until the end. The only thing that could have been executed better, in this case, are the transitions between chapters that sometimes cut the rhythm of the stories a bit.

The game is “short” 2h/2:30h, BUT THAT’S the game length it needed to be. The execution is perfect this way as the game mechanics stay fresh until the end because of this and there are no unnecessary plot twists to make the game longer.

Gameplay mechanics that have a REAL connection to the game universe, and feel responsive while being very fun and exciting. The only times where the combat felt a little “weak”/”strange” was a few sections of the same boss fight that ended up feeling slow.

As for the gameplay I am happy to say that it is minimally but effectively designed. He uses two different weapons with upgrades later down the road. Each is different from the others with combos and abilities. It may not be a deep combat system but it is fast, satisfying, and engaging. It can be repetitive for some as your objective is always the same, but the variety of enemies and collectibles, which actually contribute to the story, makes it fun to play through it is.

Visually outstanding, the game has excellent art direction and is fun AF. The game is visually beautiful and stunning. It is beautifully built to represent Persian culture, history, and identity and wows with creative features such as having a very colorful bird leading the way for you and helping you out while admiring the vistas and colors. No matter where you are in the game there is always something visually appealing.

Overall:

Overall it keeps me happy because of its enemy and level designs. Also, if you are starving for an epic story, The Tale of Bistun is the perfect option for you. Slow-paced, short, and quite easy isometric action adventure based on a Persian poem, fully narrated by an omniscient narrator. it’s a good game and I recommend it but I hope their next game doesn’t have these problems and I wish them luck.
