Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D is a good game for what it is. It came out in 1998 for Nintendo 64 and Windows computers, and 18 years later it’s back! And like an 18-year-old game, it has its flaws compared to any “top” game today. But at the time, the game was at its peak.

I recommend this game, but only to someone who loves Star Wars and has patience, because the controls of this game are not the best, and I recommend trying different control schemes and taking the time to it adapt. bring Don’t play the game for 15 minutes, write a bad review and get paid. Take your time with it and give it a try!

Plot.

The game takes place during the war between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel League. Six months have passed since the Battle of Yavin, and the Rebels continue to fight Imperial forces in desperation for the Rebellion’s survival. As the Imperial forces strengthen, Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles form the Rogue Squadron, a flight squadron comprised of the Rebel Alliance’s most skilled X-Wing pilots.

Then, six years after the Battle of Endor, the New Republic is formed following the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader and again the fall of the Empire. But the Empire is reborn under the guidance of a mysterious new leader, so the Rogue Squadron, now commanded by Wedge, continues to fight for the fledgling New Republic.

Gameplay:

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D is an arcade-like video game, where players take on the role of Luke Skywalker in fourteen different missions, and also as Wedge Antilles in the final mission. Players get to fly five ships: X-Wing, A-Wing, Speeder, Y-Wing, and finally V-Wing. Through trickery, players can fly the Millennium Falcon, the TIE-Interceptor, and with a special trick, the Naboo Starfighter. Players unlock three mystery stages depending on the Medals they have collected, whether they are copper, silver or gold.

The three secret missions are the race through Beggar’s Canyon, The Death Star Trench Run, and the Battle of Hoth. The game is incredibly well designed and the gameplay is really good. The cheat code “CHICKEN” unlocks a secret stage, in which you play as an AT-ST, destroying Rebel Alliance bases and ships. The ridiculous trickster is turning a V-Wing into a car.

Concept.

The play consists of four chapters, covering fifteen tasks. Players must complete a variety of objectives through fifteen different missions, including three secret missions that can be unlocked either through cheating, or to earn medals consecutively. Collecting medals can be achieved by winning a stage under a certain amount of time. So if you want to get the Gold Medal, you’re going to have to be fast and have amazing flying skills. The game is like Star Fox, except this is Star Wars.

Design.

The game’s graphics are 3D rendered, and the walkers look more like a cross between 3D rendered characters and sprites. When players insert the Expansion Pak into the Nintendo 64’s Jumper Pak slot, the graphics go from low to high, providing an exciting experience, with never-before-seen sequence modifications.

Background.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was the first game of the Rogue Squadron series released in 1998. The game was more successful than Shadows of the Empire, and spawned comic books as well.

The second Rogue Leader game was released in 2001 on the Nintendo GameCube and was also praised for its gameplay and graphics. The third game was even better, Rebel Strike allowed players for the first time to fight in ground combat or in vehicles. There are Star Wars games that are epic, but some of them like Dark Forces are a different story.

Memories.

I played this in the Spring of 1999, the time Super Smash Bros came out. I really liked the game and my cousin had it too. If I won the game, he wanted me to win his game, as I was the bigger player of the two, and he was a sportsman, I guess he couldn’t even survive two seconds in a game like this without to me. But over the years, he has learned to live with most of them.

Music.

The music for the game was very well done, and the theme memorable. My favorite theme has to be from the Moff Seerdon’s Revenge stage, certainly fitting for the setting of the stage, as it was a showdown with Kohl Seerdon. When fighting Seerdon, the popular theme of the Galactic Empire is played “The Imperial March”.

Pros:

  • This is my favorite game, on PC.
  • I am almost able to get rid of my N64 and its toolbox.
  • You can Google all the cheat codes, unlock the game and proceed with the memory.
  • Your ship has unlimited ammunition; and your guns don’t get too hot. (Not that they do in the Star Wars Universe)
  • The levels are really fun! However, I must warn you, as with the N64 version, the re-release has time levels as well!

Cons:

  • However, this isn’t improved, remade, or anything else. It’s just a step above running the game in an emulator.
  • It also took me a while to get the keyboard+mouse controls right, but they had the options to do it. Maybe the controller would be easier.

Overall.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D, though forgotten, is still a great game and I still have it, along with my Nintendo 64 and other games. Interesting experience, but I’d rather take a Proton Torpedo up my ‘thermal exhaust-port’ before trying to get gold medal ratings for any of the 16 functions.
