The Prehistoric Kingdom! An unparalleled title that draws inspiration from games like Zoo Tycoon 2 (ZT2), Jurassic Park Operation Genesis (JPOG), and Planet Zoo (PZ), while trying to improve the mechanics of each.
That’s right, even though it only starts in EA, you can already create interesting 3-movement parks using modular pieces, like the PZ, but with the added flexibility of measuring objects. Like PZ, you can place the plants on your own or, if you wish, you can go in the full ZT2 style and paint the woods.
Unlike ZT2, you can decide what types of plants are planted during painting, which gives you a lot of control over file creation and also provides a much more immersive experience than games like PZ. However, plants that have been painted using a brush still work as modular pieces that you can choose individually. However, do not forget, it is still an early access title, so there are mistakes here and there, but already creating exhibitions and shops in PK is a blast.
Because the game is still in its early stages, animal movement is low. However, what exists is already very good. Thanks to the animations, the animals feel alive even though they are not very much under the paper.
Small animations such as the show or yawning give the animals a lot of character, and good execution of the reverse kinematics reduces the cut and the creatures feel down to earth. Sometimes you will have some visual flaws in the movements, or maybe, but this is to be expected for a quick reach title, and the errors are compared to those in the PZ.
Imagine how surprised I was to discover in the recently re-released “Zoo Tycoon: The Ultimate Animal Collection” features that have already been created and seem to be set in such exhibits and directions, that the player is forced to really follow the carpet line in terms of game development.
The Prehistoric Kingdom does the opposite, though I would not call it hard or unwilling. The “carte blanche” approach here means you are given a free hand on how you will build, monitor, and beautify your pre-park. No pre-built roads and relatively few pre-fabricated structures.
You need to let go of your creative spirit, as well as take your time with those exhibits where combined scenes will not be a problem. It does not look like terraforming tools that resemble the drawing of a new canal. You can create as much as you want in the free time flow. Hopefully, the Steam Workshop support will be implemented alongside the maps and assets that users are producing.
The first defects in the face appear in the form of performance problems, not very specific to a game powered by Unity Engine. The PK has its eye on it, so there can only be a general consensus. The technical price you pay for eye candy can be very expensive. While we are dealing with graphical settings, we are talking about a very poor frame rate. Shadows appear on the heaviest system, but even if you disable them completely you will not get a much better experience.
Nigel Marven lends his voice to explanations and instructions, while the sounds of the desert environment are also very well simulated. I was never curious about what I heard in the game. The soundtrack is unsettling, but it was not repetitive and annoying at any point. Please make more noise for random guests and future missions.
- Beautiful graphics and sounds.
- Complex economic simulation.
- Repeat the value by default.
- Serious performance problems are not normal for a Union project.
- Lack of current scripts or true story/campaign.
- Neither Steam Success nor Business Cards.
Overall, if you are a fan of the genre, I would highly recommend this Game, without commenting on other recent games of the tycoon zoo. It’s already a really nice game to play, and the future looks bright- the developers are very open with the community about the development and what is to come. This is a game I’ve been waiting for for years- and I think it was worth the wait.
