Planet Zoo is a zoo simulator that puts a strong emphasis on the precise zoo and its micromanagement. The game looks great and the animals are very cute, the music in the game is great. You start a campaign mode at a pre-built zoo so you can learn some basics. The interface is friendly and easy to use + I should mention the great localization. Planet Zoo takes everything we like from Zoo Tycoon and gives it a wonderful breath of fresh air. Emphasis on genetics and conservation gives the game a real-world feel. I have played the most in career and franchise mode and I love the online aspect of franchise mode and the challenges presented!

Pros:

  • Lots of different kinds of animals, even in the base game
  • Beautiful graphics, even if some animals are too stylized for my personal liking.
  • Great creative freedom, especially in sandbox mode
  • Big Steam Workshop Library where you can find new constructions for use in your zoo.
  • Being able to easily share the zoo with friends (thus being able to work in the same zoo at intervals)
  • Periodic updates with player feedback (for example we didn’t have Flexi Color water at launch)

Cons:

  • The higher learning curve when it comes to building
  • Making way is terrible, and will sometimes work against you sadly.
  • Large animal hitboxes can make your beautiful buildings unusable even though it looks like animals can fit
  • Keeper AI is dumb (in all the zoos I’ve played honestly it’s all Keeper AI)

Gameplay:

Controls are restless and quickly become annoying. It is impossible to group some items into groups, such as trash cans, which become invasive to people using blueprints (basically pre-built structures that you save instead of rebuilding every time you start over). Can and can keep). Because you are given so much creative freedom, the construction of things is slow and painful. The same goes for placing and moving objects. I find myself clicking hard in the game trying to be included in my selection. It can be done, but you have to click through a menu. There is a menu for everything. It’s just a very slow, unbearable, frustrating process.

Campaign:

It’s fairly short and easy. The first few challenges are tutorials and the next few are very easy to beat. These are just the last three or more zoos that present any kind of challenge. I just really struggled and I had to strategize for a zoo and try different things. The story was also a bit preaching. Kids playing this game can benefit from carbon footprints and some dialogue about the environment and safety, but for the average adult, it can feel a little crappy.

Animals:

I find myself wanting to choose from more species, although really a reasonable choice. It’s just that once I’ve played with exactly the same animals in a dozen expeditions at the zoo, it becomes a bit of a robotic that builds their enclosures, making sure they have them. Is what they need, etc. There is no point in dividing some species. For example, the Arctic wolf and the wooden wolf are two different species in the game, when in real life they have considered the same species (gray wolf). In the game, if you try to put them in the same habitat, they will not only commit genocide – they will try to kill each other!

Graphics and Sound:

The graphics, the animals and their movements and sounds, the freedom and flexibility, and the creativity that you can use to create a new zoo from scratch are invaluable. Once you understand well what animals and guests need (great lessons), building a profitable and balanced zoo is no longer so difficult. I have now created 2 in franchise mode and both are running smoothly, with plenty of cash and animals (including some at high risk).

Conclusion:

There are some edges of the game that are slightly cracked and rough and require some work, but overall it is a very pleasant experience. I am very happy with the money spent on the game. Enjoy trying to improve the look of my habitat and the lives of my animals. I like to think of new ways to make my zoo realistic and better. Planet Zoo is an excellent zoo simulator that perfectly combines many small details and ease of use. This is definitely better than the beginning of Jurassic World Evolution and can grab your attention for dozens of hours as you build your zoo into pieces. A worthy pick-up for style fans and an exciting time-out option for everyone else.
