Giving this game a thumbs up because I want to support the developers. But I do not misunderstand; there are a few things that feel a bit wrong here. There seems to be a tendency in these interactive “shorts”.
The first-time experience was designed for failure. I remember reading a review here that said something about the lines “Understand where you are going wrong and you will understand why you were alone for so long.”
It seemed like a challenge – so I got that one. I played the game twice, and “lost” both times. I then read more reviews, one of which suggested that there was an aspect of “communication” that I may not have forgotten.
I played the game the third time, and voila, that “helpful” review I read was really accurate. If I had done something like that, I would have “won” the game.
Now, there is a problem here: How did I need to know how this kind of relationship works? There is a zero sign or signal to indicate that it will work this way. So, it’s a design issue, not a player issue. The “think outside the box” strategy seems to take a bit longer with visual novels and at this rate, he is obviously very tired.
The game really conveys a happy message. But binary design orientation always seems like a cheap hole.
