Well, this came out of nowhere. Paying homage to the shmups of ancient times Fortress Defender Free Download will completely chew you up and spit you out..and that’s on Easy.
Not for the faint of heart and not for those who are easily distracted, you will not find any new hands here at all, so be careful! With that said I enjoy a good challenge. At first glance with the broken English for the introduction of the ship and some less obvious game mechanics, it might be scary to engage yourself a bit with FD. It took a while but once familiar with the game controls and systems things started to click quickly. This shmup seems like a bit of confusion between the Gradius and maybe the Gates of Thunder but with its unique systems and powerful armor/shield system. The design of the enemy and the methods of attack are beautiful, the bosses that are thrown are tough, and the action is continuous to never give up.
Again, with the difficulty of getting off the maps the game seems to have been designed more in the 1cc mind. When you die your boat comes down and you can be thrown into a merciless situation. It is certainly the challenge of the decade trying to find its way back to power and survive. Some people may find the “Gradius factor” a little too harsh, but others will certainly admire their old school.
Simply stated that you will either love or hate FD. Personally, I love it. One of the obvious strengths is the design of the stage. Short and sweet each stage feels like a unique piece made up of a theme. This includes a variety of environmental and physical-based hazards. The feel of retro, gfx, and sound are all real-time and OST is especially amazing. I have never heard of these devs but they certainly did their job.
