Final Vendetta

Final Vendetta is a game I want to highly recommend, I do so honestly and truly. Graphically it really brings back the feel of playing Beat Em Up back in the 16-Bit Era. Control Wise everything feels fairly smooth. The sound effects are good. The characters all feel the same but are different enough to be unique and worth a try. Even the CRT Filter if you choose to use it looks better than most I’ve seen in a throwback retro-style game. The only complaints I have are that the block feels borderline useless (I just gave up trying to make it work) and the avoidance feels iffy at best. Thankfully, you can go through the stages without needing this at all.

The main concept of the game involves tension. Either on Easy or Hard. This isn’t just a complaint about the game being too hard, in fact, quite the opposite. Most of the difficulty is well constructed and each playthrough taking on enemies is smooth and easy. No, this is about all the totally unfair things designed to ruin your running. Stun Locks if 2 or 3 enemies get too close, Barrels fly at your time and time repeatedly in less than a quarter of a second to react, or instant death sections in certain areas you will never know they exist unless you die of them see before. That’s the big deal. I can deal with being restricted to 5 lives and no further. I certainly can but I can’t deal with having to play through levels 1, 2, and 3 multiple times just to get another chance to avoid the dropping shipping container on level 4 which kills quickly.
The game definitely has everything it needs to be spectacular. It just needs to soften how aggressive most enemies are and actually give better warning to environmental hazards. Tweak those two things and this game will be an easy memory. However, unless that gets fixed I can’t really recommend it. Definitely keep an eye on this one for a while because it really is an episode or two away from being a must-have.
