Dee-6: Dice Defenders is actually a game I’m already very familiar with… mostly. It’s basically an unofficial adaptation of a board game called Deep Space D-6, which is one of my favorites in my collection and I’ve played it many times. Well, I say “port”, but that’s just the beginning. It looks exactly the same, complete with minimalist enemy cards and cog symbols, but this isn’t just a port… it’s a massive update. This includes paths, MUCH more content, a ton of additional mechanics, new modes, and more.
I want to say right away that no, this is NOT like FTL. The only similarity is that you assign teams… that’s all. Otherwise, it doesn’t play anything like it, so keep that in mind. I know that it is the first collection that many will think of when they see this.
Dee-6: Dice Defenders (Video Game) Gameplay:
No, the gameplay is very different here. The basics are pretty easy to understand. Your goal is to get to the Threat Deck, filled with, well, threat cards. Threats can be external (ships, asteroids, nebulae, whatever) or internal (boarding crew, mindless robots, disease, whatever). External threats go to the right, in one of the four slots. Slots are basically a way to keep track of the health each threat has… take them out as they take damage. As for internal threats, you cannot damage them with your weapons and therefore you must designate the necessary team to get rid of them.
You better do these things fast, because a new threat arrives at the end of every turn. At the same time, Death Threat is also released. Each threat will display a range of dice values that will cause it to activate, as well as text/symbols that will tell you what that threat actually does when it activates. The game does a great job of keeping track of all these things, which is good because sometimes you’ll have a lot of them at once.
Overall:
A very cool and original single-player board game. Dice are members of the crew that you distribute at every step of the function, trying to avoid space pirates, viruses, and all kinds of trouble. Great adventure-based game for when you want to decompress after work and sell things. Recommended PC Game !!
