3 Skulls of the Toltecs Free Download is a 3rd person cartoon adventure game in the same vein as The Secret of Monkey Island. Interaction is point-and-click, and the player is given a list of verbs to choose from to perform actions: open, close, pick up/give, use, look, rotate and talk, just like the LucasArts games they emulate.

Once a certain part of the area is covered, a map is available for travel, or the player can ride a hand-pumped trolley on the train tracks or travel by donkey. Industries are inventory-based, and the player must talk to other characters in the game and collect items to solve them. In many of the conversations, players are given several options as to how Fenimore will respond. The choice of players greatly affects their gameplay.

The screen is divided into three parts: a scrollable display window in the center containing characters and objects to be manipulated or removed, a box in the lower left corner containing various verbs (speak, pick, give, look), and next to this, an inventory box with all the different items that Fenimore owns.

The game is played using the mouse pointer to select an item or character in the viewport, an item in the inventory, and a verb. The game requires a player to select one item from each box (thus highlighting it to make the game easier); for example: clicking on the hat, then the word “give”, will make Fenimore give the slot to the selected character.
