The 7th Circle – Endless Nightmare is a turn-based dungeon crawler (word salad!), But let’s break down exactly what the game is, and why I’m recommending it.
This is an excellent if somewhat straight turn-based crawler. Finished the first game mode and look forward to more challenges. The “story” was pretty dark and disturbing! The game is actually very good, although its mechanics are very simple. This is a strange combination of grid-based basement crawling CRPG and a traditional JRPG.
Really interesting and very cool – it has got a psychologically terrifying atmosphere of sadness, but the gameplay war almost reminds me of Et Atrian Odyssey. Instead of going back to the city to heal and prepare new equipment in the inn, go as far as you can, die, and then get healed and upgraded.
Thus, the most valuable resource of the game is knowledge – knowledge of the map (what you have mapped is saved by death), knowledge of what the enemy can do, knowledge of spells (through a syllable system). Casting where you can discover new spells without actually finding a formula for them (Ultima Underworld or Arcus Fetalis), knowing where the nets are placed, and much more.
It would be nice to see a little more perseverance though – for example, I want the doors that are there to open in me to stay open for your next life. That’s the decent thing to do, and it should end there. It’s not just gear. That means you will avoid doing the same thing.
Circle 7 may eventually show such a shortcut system, but I haven’t seen it yet. The basement itself is no different, especially in its graphics or architecture.
It would be nice to see more types of walls and floors and more variations in the types you see. Exactly the same brick walls are wandering badly, and this is the cause of all kinds of mixing.
