STAR WARS – X-Wing Alliance is probably the best in the X-Wing series from a story and gameplay perspective and something you won’t regret spending your time with as a newcomer or fan of Star Wars. Being able to fly in the iconic X-Wing is probably why I loved the game so much as a kid and revisiting the destruction of an empire is just something you can’t miss!
Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance game where I compare all current space sims. Growing up this was my favorite star wars game ever and while the graphics haven’t aged well, the content is amazing. The characters are believable and endearing and the depth of the game is impressive.
The campaign fills in the gap of what the rebel alliance does between the Battle of Hoth and the destruction of the 2nd Death Star though technically this storyline isn’t canon anymore. One technical issue with X-Wing Alliance is that even with steam you need a Joystick. It doesn’t work on the mouse and keyboard.
That Plug Joystick, if you’re like me, you’ll want to dust off too, because there aren’t many games that use ’em anymore. Just a heads up; you will need a book to remember all the keyboard commands. There are tons of them. The idea is to use your joystick to fly, and fight while using your other hand to hold the throttle, commands, weapons, squad commands… pretty much everything else in the simulator. And yes, this is a pretty big picture.
There are a few important things to note while playing: your speed affects your turn speed. you have multiple weapons and different weapon settings. If you are flying a ship with a turret you can put it on auto fire, or in the forward integrated position.
You control the energy sent between your lasers, shields, dart weapon, and engines. Just mastering these few things will take a great deal of time and effort, and could probably get you through most of the game.
Going into all the different modes, commands, and ways to play X-wing Alliance would be a great idea in a guide, maybe one day I’ll actually write one, but for now, hopefully, that’s enough to get you started per game if you decide to try it. (If you need a hand or if you see something you really think would be good to know,
The graphics are old but because of the nature of the game, you usually won’t even notice the awkward shapes next to other ships and static objects.
The voice acting is a low point as well but nothing that can be overlooked if you are neck-deep in the action. A controller or joystick is required to play this game and some imagination as you will need to regularly adjust your boat’s power levels to gain an edge over your competition.
Also, remember to have a joystick, or playing this game will be like pulling nails by hand in the desert. If you’re not deterred by any of the advice already covered, and you’re a hardcore Star Wars fan, this game is for you! Too bad Ace Azzameen was in the Expanded universe, so he is no longer a cannon, now he is just a Star Wars Legend.
You will always be in my heart Azzameen family. Once an Azzameen always an Azzameen! All in all, this is a solid title that holds a special place for many players. It is well worth the investment and I highly recommend it to new or veteran players.
