Potion Craft is an alchemist simulator where you physically interact with your tools and ingredients to make medicines. You’re in complete control of the entire store: invent new recipes, attract customers, and experiment to your heart’s content. Just remember: the whole city is trusting you.
- Unique visuals inspired by medieval manuscripts and medical books.
- Highly satisfying physical interaction with components and equipment.
- Sandbox-style gameplay where you have many different paths available, and it’s up to you to figure out the best way to complete each task.
- Sell your medicine to the people of town while playing the role of a great craftsman, a greedy nestle, a secret dark master, or someone else!
Art styling/animation: The style of art in this game is very stylized and extraordinarily beautiful. It’s as if the whole game is made on old parchment paper, simple but beautiful art is not only easy on the eyes but also beautiful to look at.
People are diverse, backdrops have enough detail to tell what they are without the above details, and the UI feels coherent and smooth. Animations work, though, but there are some that stand out. Water animations, crushing plants, and cauldron bubbles are great when making your own medicine.
Setting: Due to the parchment paper artwork and simple design, the time span is constant and flowing. The first idea of the sequence in which an alchemist will survive dates back to the 1500s and 1600s, and the choice of art style for this game fits this sequence perfectly.
Potion Variety: In addition to the incredible art style, there are customizable options for medicines. You can change the shape of the bottle, the name of the medicine, the icon on it, the color, and the shape of the paper on which the icon is. The icons are each uniquely designed and the bottle shapes are quite different, allowing for a variety of stunning-looking combinations.
The Potion Craft: The heart of this game is making unique medicine. Use the ingredients you get, whether its flowers, mushrooms, or rocks, break them into mortar and pestle, and then put them in a saucepan. From there, you mix the ingredients until you find the medicine you want and then make it.
Ingredients can be obtained from the garden or purchased from merchants and each has different effects. Then you can customize, finish and sell the medicine.
There is also an alchemy machine that can be purchased later under the game and thus start making even more advanced medicines. It’s more of a late-game, but it can be very complicated and overwhelming. There are successes in the game in the form of chapters that, once completed, increase the complexity of customer orders.
The Puzzle Map: To find out which medicine you are going to make, you have a map on top of your pot. Twenty pills start in the middle and whatever ingredient you use will move it in a certain direction on the map. There are different points on the map that order different types of medicines, so your goal is to target the desired point by combining the necessary ingredients.
There are also obstacles on the map that can stop your medicine, such as the scary scary skull that destroys all my components with one touch. Although this mechanic may be a bit confusing and this is not what I have always liked. Sometimes it works so well and then other times my medicine gets so bent over the scalp that I lose a lot of ingredients.
Making medicines and hitting the little book icons on the map will also give you a level playing experience. When you level up, you can enhance various aspects of your gameplay, such as increasing the visibility of the map, hugging for more money, or creating an extra XP boost on the map.
That’s about it for feedback. Overall the game is good. Want some different songs because listening to the same track over and over again makes it repeat in a way. Also, the game should alert you when you click the “New Game” button.
