Pitchfork Kingdom is a fun little sideshow and very reminiscent of mid-2000s style Adobe Flash games. A nice split between fighting baddies and testing your jumping reflexes.

It’s a pretty quick game (about 90 minutes on Normal with a few levels resets), but I had a great time with it. I tried the keyboard and controller—the controller was definitely the most fluid option. Would have liked a bit more dialogue and the option to buy some weapons/armor and extra coins!

Pros:

• The fight is timed and there are power moves and the double jump works really well. Switching between bow and sword is very quick and responsive.
• Controller support in this game was excellent.
• The music is liberating and upbeat.
• All the sounds are very nice.
• The platforming isn’t too heavy and is a nice change of pace from combat.
• There are more enemies and more bosses. Nothing drastically changes throughout the game, but it’s nice to see some different attacks throughout the game.
• There are different stages with different icons. All of this is simple but fun.
• Unexpected level-up points and I liked being able to choose my build.
• Combat is very reactive and not sluggish.

Cons:

• It’s short, you really need to know this so you don’t get embarrassed.
• There doesn’t seem to be any replay value outside of trying to do what you’ve already done better.
• While the level-up points are a nice touch I don’t know how much of a difference the stats made as there was no character sheet and it wasn’t easily identifiable.

This is an amazing game, really fun to play and challenging all the way! Really nice art too and with the soulful music, I really feel like I’m in the Pitchfork Kingdom! I did get it for free, but I liked it so much.
