Story 

Many people say that this game has no story. For those of you who want to buy this game, my explanation is that, yes, this game does not follow the story of the Great Ninja War arc where the series was dropped at the end of Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 3. But it has two features – written, Ninja Escapades (the third Ninja Escapade is only a 5-minute movie with no fights) and a special Mecha-Naruto story in the form of a somewhat animated story.

If you are interested in how Akatsuki was founded and why or if you want to know why Itachi had to do what it did, then these short story elements are really fun. I only give the “story” 3/5 because the stories of both Ninja Escapades and Mecha-Naruto run at  3 hours better than the ~ 8-hour story in the full entry in the Storm series.

Gameplay 

Ninja World Tournament mode, in which you will find yourself spending most of your time (as it contains most of the content in the game) has very different mechanics than the rest of the series. Gone are the days when you had to pull out the pulp of your only enemy to get ahead in the story. Instead, you will find yourself facing three enemies, each aiming to collect as many “Battle Arabs” as possible. This is done by killing your enemies and lifting the shining Orbus. Battle arbs also work for your health. When you lose them all, you are stunned and weakened, in which case it only takes one beat to get you out of the round.

Battle of the Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Series returns in Free Battle mode with a big change. Now you can’t use both your Awareness and Ultimate Jutsu together in battle. Instead, you should choose another option at the beginning of the match, called “These” and “Drive” mode (which adds extra functionality to your two supporting characters). The 3D battlefield is fairly simple, so don’t expect too much of the complexity offered by Bandai Namco’s other 3D fighters, Tekken.

Free revolving elements have been largely removed. I personally don’t mind too much because the most important thing to me was never to move around freely and it was always very modest. Instead, you are allowed to explore the setting of the Ninja World Tournament, Festival Island. The island is quite small, boring, and sparse, except for the characters that are scattered about, which you should talk about being offered side coast to be able to use in the tournament.

Graphics

The graphics have a very dynamic, anime-esque art style, which I like. In terms of quality, it fits perfectly between the Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 and 4. The latter was one of the best-looking games of 2016 IMO.
