Divekick

Divekick is a fighting PC Game to its core with the simple premise of knocking out an opponent with a twist– you have to jump in the air and throw yourself towards the opponent to become a DIVEKICK to win the game using just the buttons two more jumps into the air and dive kick your opponent. Rounds end fairly quickly with a typical match lasting between 2-5 minutes in length and for the most part, it becomes a frantic battle to try and stay high in the air compared to your hopeful opponent who takes them away from their caution, in that we are not saying however that Dive Kick doesn’t have skills involved. I found myself trying to outdo my opponent in various ways such as; standing still and waiting to psyche out of my opponent, yet in the air, going to make and break quickly jumping and diving for quick kills, and so on.

Before starting the game you are introduced to different characters each with their own stories and special abilities that allow you to jump higher, kick faster, and in some cases even hover a bit. After the characters and skins are chosen you are then given the new option of choosing a gem that acts as a game aid for your character… most of the time. There are some gems that are just there for fun or a way to show off! I’m really talking about the YOLO gem, a gem that gives the opposite player a 4 round lead only needing to dive and kick the opponent once to win. I found myself a lot of time choosing a YOLO gem to challenge myself, to see if it was possible to actually win but I would never succeed.

My first thought about the DiveKick was literally: What? I can play a fighting game without ridiculously learning how to pull off combos, anyone can jump into it knowing exactly what to do to win and it’s fun to play. Where can I register!? Because that is what it really is, a game that anyone can play without having prior knowledge of what the game is about or what to do. It’s a game that brings people together in a forgotten sense of whimsical fun and fun that seems to have been lost in a lot of fighting games lately and it’s a game that relies on playing smart and biding your time and not knowing what jump over someone else and be able to pull off a move without your opponent screaming ‘how did you do that?! that’s an obvious advantage!’
