Lego Star Wars 3 – The Clone Wars follows the TV series: Star Wars – The Clone Wars. How well it does, I don’t know, because I haven’t watched the show regularly. However, I did get to play the few episodes of the show that I remembered, so I had to figure out how long he had been following the show and assume he was doing a decent job.

The best LEGO game out there in my opinion. It was the last game to have all dialogue replaced by long, slow voiceovers with screams, grunts, grunts, and mutterings. Honestly, it was one of the last LEGO games I felt comfortable with. It is very simple and advanced at the same time. For a game like this that was made a year and a half ago a decade ago, it deserves a better reputation and following. Here are the pros and cons of what this game has to offer:

The plot: 

The plot of the game begins near the end of Episode II; Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padmé are executed on Geonosis when the Jedi and Clone Army arrive in time to save the day. From there, it follows the plot of the Clone Wars cartoon (from 2008, not 2003). From what I gather, since I haven’t watched that show yet, it’s the first two seasons.

The story itself is divided into three campaigns, one for each “main” villain: Count Dooku, General Grievous, and Asajj Ventress. Like the previous LEGO Star Wars game, there is no real dialogue, and the scenes are all filled with cute interactions.

As for the level design, there are a lot of good levels in this game, but unfortunately, they are overshadowed by the abundance of strategic open battlefield levels. You have to destroy enemy bases and build your own. It’s fun and allows for great side action (like it did in the game’s Republic Assault missions) but it also replaces some of the actual story missions which seem a bit lazy to me.

The controls feel like other Lego Star Wars games (I used a gamepad controller) but with what I would consider a huge improvement. They removed the short sentences from the previous games and replaced them with the ability to fight endlessly. However, one thing I miss is being able to use more powerful light attacks instead of switching to button mashing.

This is an amazing lego game with a fun “grand battle” mechanic. the more traditional linear levels are also well designed. the hub world when it’s so small is interesting to explore for the first time. the game however suffers from occasional bugs.  (NOTE: In the first level most people will see their screen go very dark, for most people this will make them delete the game, don’t do this. when you finish the level everything after that will be well. I did have the same thing happen in certain sections in the “Innocents of Ryloth” level so expect something to happen there as well.) Without the bugs, it’s a great game worth it.

Overall:

Overall, this game sounds perfect. I would highly recommend playing it. I was never bored during the game and I was constantly discovering new and unique things. Multiplayer is very complimentary and gives both players a job to do instead of one trying to outdo the other in pulling a lever.

This game was set in an amazing place in its gameplay and mechanics but still lags behind in dialogue and appearance when compared to LEGO games today. The game is massively underrated and should be considered one of the best LEGO video games out there.
