Shadowgrounds is a fun, retro shooter. It is presented in top-down format instead of FPS. The graphics are not world-class but work well. Similarly, the story is certainly gritty – an empty outpost is overrun by killer aliens and some survivors are left to fight and escape – but this one Greatly presented and entertains me. I would recommend using a game controller with this game. For me, it worked out a great deal of frustration with the keyboard and mouse.

I found the game a bit challenging without getting frustrated. Each level gives you four recipes that are rearranged for each new level. If / when you die, set a short distance from where you died. In other words, whatever enemies you have reduced are still dead, and so on. If you use all your numbers (I assume) you have to restart this level. There are no savings during a level, so you either have to complete the current level or you will be forced to restart from the beginning if you need to close the program. Because of this, my playtime pad has become obsolete when I stopped playing in the background for some time when I needed to go away.

There is a reasonable amount of different types, with about a dozen weapons to find and use, and various upgrades to buy for each weapon. You won’t have as many upgrade points to upgrade each weapon to the maximum, so you’ll need to think twice about deciding which one to buy. Enemies come in about six or seven different types, most of which are level of luck. Fight some bosses during the game and keep their interest in passing half a dozen or more hours.
